Julia Hyman
Intake Triage Coordinator
About Julia Hyman : Julia joined Fathers’ UpLift in 2019 as a Clinical Social Work Intern and transitioned to a full-time staff person. Now, as Intake Coordinator, Julia identifies the initial need for the men we serve and connects them to helpful resources and services provided by our agency.
Julia’s Narrative: “I am from Connecticut and I went to Boston College for undergrad and am currently attending Boston University for graduate school. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Social Work, and I’m currently working towards earning a Master’s degree in Public Health. Previously, I was the Assistant Director of Prep Academy and Admissions at REACH Prep, an education-based CBO in Connecticut that supports and empowers underserved, high-achieving Black and Latinx students to graduate from top colleges. I became a Licensed Certified Social Worker in August 2020 and in 2021, I transitioned from being a graduate student intern to a leader in the Intake Department, going on to train new interns and implement a new virtual intake process in response to the pandemic
In previous roles, I have launched a year-round Socio-Emotional Support Program for elementary school-aged students after recognizing that they needed a safe group space to address mental health and wellness needs. Designing this program helped me realize that I wanted to make a career change and enter the fields of social work and public health. Fathers’ Uplift aims to understand each client and the contexts in which they live in an honest effort to meet the client’s needs. The level of thoughtfulness and care shown by each provider to our clients is really something special.
“If I could invite anyone to dinner… I would invite Issa Rae. Although we are on very different career paths, I admire and relate to her as a black female trailblazer with a strong work ethic and a passion for uplifting people of color.
