RACISM: A guide for Black professionals experiencing racism in the workplace

Dear family,

RACISM: A guide for Black professionals experiencing racism is a book for Black professionals experiencing racism in their workplace. The guide includes a set of strategies and exercises I created that can be useful when confronted with racism in various settings. A poor response to racism could be detrimental to the change we are trying to bring about in this world and our communities. In the workspace, our response to behaviors and practices that are racist is essential. Our thoughts and expectations about the people in the workplace are also important. Continuing to be effective in our crafts requires us to maintain internal awareness and honesty on an ongoing basis.

The type of racism that’s difficult to deal with is covert racism embedded in policies and acts of aggression in the workplace (subtle or obvious). Black professionals cannot waste their time reflecting on the mere fact that racism exists when attempting to survive and maintain their sanity. As Black professionals, we must constantly remind ourselves that we are the change we want to see, even if it starts with opening the doors for others. As we open doors and confront racism, let’s protect our sanity together.

I hope that this guide can aid you and those that you know in your journey as a Black professional. Please share this resource.

Visit the RACISM: Guide for Black professionals website to download the guide.

With love, gratitude, and appreciation for each of you,

Dr. Charles C. Daniels, Jr.
