Dr. Renee Boynton-Jarret, MD, ScD

Advisory Board Member

Dr. Jarrett is a member of Fathers’ Uplift’s Advisory board. She is a pediatrician and social epidemiologist and the founding director of the Vital Village Network. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center. She completed her medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine and her doctorate in Social Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health. Her work focused on violence as a life course social determinants of health, specifically the role of early-life adversities on health outcomes and violence epidemiology.

She is a recipient of a William T. Grant Scholars award to study the social ecology of violence and its impact on child health outcomes. She is also interested in interventions for children who have been exposed to family and community violence and trauma-informed approaches to care and setting-level interventions. She has served as a supervising clinician for several school-based health centers affiliated with the Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Medical Center over the past five years. She leads the Health Indicators Task Force for the Boston Defending Childhood Initiative and is a member of the Boston Child Wellness Council, both affiliates of the Boston Public Health Commission. She is an active participant in several community-based organizations and community roundtables. She is a recent alumni of the distinguished Emerging Leaders Program in the city of Boston, has won numerous awards and recognitions for teaching, humanism in medicine and compassionate care.

As a researcher, she has a specific concentration on evidence-based strategies for reducing the impact of life course adversities on health and expertise in the measurement of exposure to violence and social hardships using factor analysis methodology. She also has advanced training in analysis of longitudinal data, multilevel modeling, as well as qualitative interviewing, analysis, and mixed-methods research modalities.
