  • Quote: “With the right support, every father has the potential to overcome obstacles and build a better future for themselves and their family.”
  • Family: Married with six children

Background: Ricardo Barbosa learned about Fathers’ UpLift through the returning citizens at the mayor’s office. Intrigued by their mission and driven by a desire to support other fathers, Ricardo decided to get involved.

Motivation for Joining Fathers’ UpLift: Ricardo’s primary motivation for participating in Fathers’ UpLift services was his desire to give back to dads reentering society after their release from prison. He understood the unique challenges these fathers face, including reconnecting with their families and rebuilding their lives.

Participation and Personal Growth: Ricardo participated in the Pre-Father Care program for about a year. During this time, he received counseling from a clinician and coaching from Vicente, which played a crucial role in his journey. The support and structure provided by Fathers’ UpLift helped Ricardo achieve stability in his self-care routine, significantly improving his mental health and sleep patterns. Ricardo feels that the program has uplifted him in all areas of his life, providing the necessary tools to succeed.

Impact on Others: One of Ricardo’s proudest achievements is helping other dads reconnect with their children and be a part of their lives. He has guided fathers through the legal system, assisting them in obtaining visitation rights and fostering stronger relationships with their kids. Ricardo’s efforts have had a profound impact on these families, providing hope and support during challenging times.

Professional Life: Outside of his involvement with Fathers’ UpLift, Ricardo works at a gas station and also as a valet. These jobs provide him with a consistent routine, which he values. Ricardo is particularly proud of his work ethic and dedication. Looking forward, he hopes to return to coaching people in recovery, using his experiences to help others navigate their own journeys.
