Joined Fathers’ UpLift: 2021 (Intern), 2022 (Therapeutic Coach)

Responsibilities: Robin serves families and fathers, helping them overcome barriers that prevent them from remaining positively engaged in their children’s lives.

Role: As a Therapeutic Coach, Robin plays a crucial role in supporting fathers to stay actively involved in their children’s lives, fostering healthier family dynamics and relationships.

Staff Narrative:

Robin Turner was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, MA, for most of her life. As an adult, she moved to Hyde Park, MA, with her family, and they also lived in South Carolina from 2000-2002 before returning to Boston. Robin’s parents migrated from South Carolina and North Carolina in the 1960s, providing a rich cultural background that influences her perspective.

Robin holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, obtained in 2022, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Johnson C. Smith University, obtained in 1988. Her professional experience is deeply rooted in the human services field. She currently works as a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) with clients who are disabled and has previously worked in a residential facility for seven years and as a daycare teacher.

One of Robin’s unique perspectives comes from her own experience as a client of Fathers’ UpLift. Her journey from seeking help and support to becoming a valuable team member at Fathers’ UpLift is a testament to her resilience and dedication. She values the organization’s understanding of the importance of men of color being actively involved in their children’s lives and how their absence can affect the entire family.

Why Fathers’ UpLift? Robin is inspired by the founders’ understanding of the critical role men of color play in their children’s lives and appreciates being part of an organization that supports this mission.

If I could invite anyone to dinner, it would be: Denzel Washington. Robin admires him for his integrity, honor, compassion for life and people, and his incredible acting career.

When she’s not at Fathers’ UpLift, Robin enjoys spending time with her family, supporting individuals with disabilities, and engaging in community activities.
