Reentry Support

We offer specialized pre-release and community-based services for men facing challenges related to incarceration and re-entry.

Reentry Support

Our reentry support for community fathers has been foundational to our work. We believe that no father dreams of being a deadbeat, including fathers behind bars.

At Fathers’ UpLift, our Homecoming team is fueled by a profound mission: to uplift fathers and their families impacted by incarceration. We believe that no father should be left behind. Every week, we enter the walls of correctional facilities, creating vital pathways for connection, hope, and healing. Our commitment runs deep as we work tirelessly to empower these fathers, providing them with the resources and support they need to reconnect with their families and forge brighter futures—both within the confines of incarceration and in the communities that await their return.

Behind The Wall: Preparing for Reentry

For over a decade, we have been dedicated to caring for fathers behind bars at the Suffolk County House of Correction. Our compassionate team conducts weekly visits, engaging with residents through personalized individual and group support sessions. It’s never too early to start planning for a brighter future, and it’s never too late to become the man and father you aspire to be. If you or someone you know is a father navigating incarceration in Suffolk County or any other area, reach out to us. We are here to help foster connections and provide the support essential for successful reintegration into family and community life.

In The Community: Supporting Post-Incarceration

Our services go well beyond the confines of jails and prisons. When a father is released, our Homecoming team is ready to offer unwavering support as they embark on their journey back into the community. We understand the complexities of reentry and strive to set our participants on a path toward success. Through weekly individual and group support, we cultivate a supportive environment where fathers can confront the challenges of reentry head-on. Our team comprises individuals with similar backgrounds, fostering an immediate sense of trust and belonging. Our approach prioritizes family and fatherhood, empowering men to identify their purpose, rebuild relationships, and heal from past traumas.

Drop-in Center: A Safe Haven for Support

Our Drop-in Center serves as a vital resource for those returning from incarceration and others in the community affected by similar experiences. Here, individuals can find accessible coaching, insurance assistance, and a wealth of resources tailored to aid their reintegration. We are committed to creating a supportive atmosphere where everyone feels welcomed and empowered to seek help.

Bags for Dads

Every father deserves the tools and support to succeed after release. Our Bags for Dads program provides essential items for participants and their families, whether transitioning from the facility or currently in the community. Each sturdy duffel bag includes necessities—such as a comb, toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, and more—as a tangible reminder that they are not alone and that someone cares about their journey. By offering practical support and encouragement, we aim to instill a sense of dignity and hope in every father striving to be his best parent.

How it Works?

At our core, we believe in the power of second chances. That’s why we engage with fathers up to three months before their release, equipping them with the resources, mindset, and support systems they need to reintegrate successfully into their communities. Our goal is to ensure that within the first 48 hours of their release, they are set on a healthy and positive path.

On the day of their release, we are there to greet them with warmth and compassion. Our team meets the father at the facility’s gate or our welcoming drop-in center, presenting him with one of our “Bags for Dads” —a symbol of care filled with essential items needed for a fresh start. We provide transportation to his destination, whether a family home, shelter, halfway house, or another supportive environment, ensuring he arrives safely and confidently.

We don’t just stop there. If the individual wishes, we provide ongoing services and a nurturing relationship that fosters growth and resilience long after their initial transition. The impact of our program speaks for itself, boasting a remarkable one-year recidivism rate of less than 4% annually for the fathers we have supported.
